In 2025, VIP Metals successfully completed a critical water infrastructure project: the fabrication, supply, and delivery of a 250NB SCH20 pipeline spanning 210 metres, connecting the Dam Pump Station to the new reservoir. This project reflects VIP Metals’ ability to deliver precision-fabricated, standards-compliant pipeline systems built for long-term durability, corrosion resistance, and reliable performance under demanding operating conditions. As the fabrication partner, VIP Metals executed all workshop activities in accordance with EN specifications, delivering a complete turnkey supply that met stringent structural, welding, and inspection requirements from start to finish. VIP Metals’ scope of work included full pipeline fabrication and supply, including: Cutting, fit-up, and welding Finishing and preparation for coating Dimensional and visual inspections at every stage Tagging, protection, and handling for transport Packing and delivery to site All welding procedures and qualifications were completed to AWS D1.1 structural welding code, ensuring high integrity and consistent workmanship throughout the build. To ensure long-term protection against environmental and water-related corrosion, corrosion protection was completed by an approved third-party applicator in accordance with DWS9900 specifications, including: External coating: 350 microns H10 Brilliant Green paint Internal coating: 450 microns Poly-glass lining Quality assurance: coating thickness and adhesion testing to confirm DWS9900 conformity The pipeline was delivered as a complete supply package, with all sections properly tagged, protected, and handled to prevent damage during transport and offloading, supporting smooth site handling and installation readiness. VIP Metals successfully completed a turnkey scope of work for the Middel Letaba Dam project, delivering the full fabrication and on-site installation of miscellaneous stainless steel and structural steel items required for safe access and long-term operational functionality. The project included the complete manufacture and installation of cat ladders, access platforms, and hand railings, executed in accordance with relevant EN specifications and quality standards, ensuring durability, safety, and compliance for critical dam infrastructure. As the turnkey contractor, VIP Metals was responsible for the full process from workshop fabrication through to site installation, including: Fabrication of stainless-steel structural cat ladders Fabrication of access platforms and hand railings Supply, surface preparation, and installation of all fabricated components Execution in line with applicable EN specifications and quality requirements All fabrication was completed at the VIP Metals Workshop, under controlled conditions to ensure dimensional accuracy, repeatability, and full compliance with design drawings and project specifications. Material selection was driven by performance requirements and site conditions, including: Stainless steel: 316L (selected for superior corrosion resistance and strength in harsh environments) Structural steel: S355JR+AR (as specified) Finish: brushed / polished (as per design specification), with carbon steel components prepared as required Welding and jointing processes were carried out in accordance with EN welding standards, with visual inspection and quality verification applied throughout to ensure consistent workmanship and conformity. Installation was completed on site at Middel Letaba Dam, including: Positioning and securing of cat ladders Assembly and installation of access platforms and hand railings Final alignment checks and anchoring to existing structures Compliance with approved safety procedures and site-specific risk assessments All fabricated and installed items were inspected to confirm compliance with design, material, and dimensional requirements, supporting long-term safety and durability in an operational dam environment. VIP Metals completed the fabrication and installation of critical access infrastructure at the pump station on the dam wall side, providing safe and practical access above the feed lines running from the dam wall. This scope was delivered to ensure safe, convenient operational and maintenance access to elevated pump station areas, aligned with applicable occupational health and safety requirements and built for long-term durability in a damp, corrosive dam environment. As part of this work package, VIP Metals delivered a full fabrication-to-installation scope, including accurate measurement, structural detailing, corrosion protection, and final handover, ensuring a compliant, fit-for-purpose access solution from end to end. VIP Metals’ scope of work included: Detailed measurement, design input, and fabrication of the access platform structure Supply and installation of all structural steel components, including support frames, decking, and grating Fabrication and installation of handrails and safety ladders for secure access to elevated pump station sections Surface preparation, corrosion protection, and final coating of all steel members in accordance with project specifications Alignment, bolting, welding, and final fixing to achieve full structural integrity Final inspection and handover to confirm compliance with design and safety requirements All materials used were selected and applied to conform to relevant SANS/ISO structural steel and safety standards, with corrosion protection applied per the approved coating specification to support long-term performance in a high-moisture, high-corrosion environment. Quality assurance and safety compliance formed a core part of delivery, with work completed under approved method statements and safety plans, and inspections carried out at key stages of fabrication and installation to verify alignment with drawings and specifications.
