Technical Report: Fabrication and Installation of Stainless-Steel Structural Platform
1. Introduction
A new stainless steel structural platform was fabricated for the DN1200 Sleeve Valve located at Luphephe Dam.
The purpose of the platform is to provide safe and secure access for maintenance and operational activities on
the valve assembly.
2. Fabrication Details
All fabrication works were carried out at VIP METALS workshop under controlled conditions. The structural
members were manufactured from Grade 316 Stainless Steel, selected for its superior corrosion resistance and
mechanical strength suitable for the dam’s humid environment.
3. Standards and Specifications
Fabrication and welding procedures were performed in accordance with relevant EN (European Norm) standards, ensuring structural integrity, quality, and compliance with industry requirements.
4. Purpose and Function
The platform serves as an access and maintenance structure for the DN1200 Sleeve Valve installation. It allows
personnel to perform inspection, servicing, and operational tasks safely and efficiently.
5. Conclusion
The stainless-steel platform was fabricated and inspected to meet design and quality specifications. The
completed structure ensures long-term durability, low maintenance, and safe access for ongoing operations at
Luphephe Dam.
